The Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) L-2a locomotives were a class of five 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotives built by Baldwin in 1948. They were a revision of the earlier L-2 class and are notable for being some of the last passenger steam locomotives built in the United States, as well as the heaviest Hudsons ever constructed.

The L-2a locomotives were intended for hauling high-speed, express passenger trains like the George Washington on the C&O's flatter, level routes. They incorporated a number of modern features for the time, including roller bearings on all axles. A key difference from the earlier L-2 class was the use of Franklin RC poppet valves instead of the traditional Baker valve gear.

With a total locomotive weight of 443,000 pounds, the L-2a class was the heaviest of any 4-6-4 Hudson type. This immense bulk, however, may have negated the potential performance gains from the advanced poppet valves.

The five L-2a locomotives (numbered 310–314) were ordered in 1948 and had a very short working life. The cost for these last-of-their-kind steam engines was significantly higher than the earlier L-2s. By 1953, the C&O had fully transitioned its passenger services to diesel power, and the Hudsons were not suitable for freight work. All L-2 and L-2a locomotives were subsequently scrapped, and none were preserved.
